Studio #14 – Jessica Cooper

It all started with life sciences… literally and theoretically.

When I was young I wanted to be a doctor, but I was always an “artist”. I put artist in quotes because people attach a lot of things to that word and I don’t want to be associated with some of those things so I prefer character creator, because that’s what I do.  I have been creating characters for 16 years and I just let them tell their own stories, mostly because my characters are just as stubborn as me and wouldn’t have it any other way. I went to USC and was an art studio major for a while, during that time I got the chance to meet a lot of cool and influential people who taught me a lot and helped me find my creative self.  I went to Washington State and was an AmeriCorps Vista for a while, I got discouraged and stopped creating things for a while, but I needed that break to stop just making things and explore what things I really wanted to make.  Now I’m at Tapp’s making animations with my microscope on graph paper and stop motion animations with my DSLR and cardstock. Hope you like them.
