Smaller Beckons

A small works group show

[Columbia, SC | July 6 – 28, 2017, Opening Reception 6pm, July 6, 2017]

Tapp’s Arts Center is pleased to announce the opening of Smaller Beckons, a group exhibition of works under 35 square inches. Join us for the opening reception, July 6, 2017 from 6pm to 10pm, and visit any time from July 6th through July 28th. Tapp’s exhibitions are free to visit, and open to the public 10am to 6pm, Tuesday through Saturday.

Small works generate intimacy. They draw a viewer into close proximity, whispering unique truths that strengthen visually affective experiences. Tapp’s wishes to explore instances of this emotional potency through the exhibition, Smaller Beckons. Featuring 25+ local artists, the exhibition will present all media: painting, sculpture, animation, literature… all facets of the creative process in scaled form, with the goal to offer the visitor a pristine unencumbered experience of visual revelry. With the overarching theme being size, each piece’s content will vary from representational narratives to works based solely in aesthetics.

Executive Director, Caitlin Bright, shares, “I am so thrilled to revisit this show. It was the first exhibition that we produced when I began my position at Tapp’s in 2014. With three years of experimentation, growth, and learning under our belts, we felt now was the perfect time to reminisce on where we began and where we’ve journeyed. The Tapp’s team has built a huge thriving community of artists and creators that make this art center a dynamic exciting forum for artistic engagement.”

Featured Artists include:

Michaela Pilar Brown, Bree Burchfield, Laura Garner, Bohumila Augustinova, Matt Catoe, Osamu Kobayashi, Molly Harrell, Bonnie Goldberg, Alejandro Garcia Lemos, Mathew Kramer, Lyon Hill, Kimberly Bookman, Flavia Lovatelli, Jason Kendall, Marcella Kuykendall, Shannon Lindsey, Paul Kinosian, Emily Ruiz, Jessica Cooper, Joe Kendrick, Katherine Van Aerum, Lauren Garner, Ron Hagell, Ashley Berendzen, Tabitha Ott, Mary Catherine Kunze, and Madeline Seeds

Tapp’s Arts Center is giant artistic laboratory for community engagement. We encourage artistic agency through exhibitions, cultural events, workshops, classes, and studios to help Columbia create, learn and grow.
