| $7 – $35Event Navigation

Jon Rooks is a soulful vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from Williston, a small town in South Carolina just a few miles from the birthplace of James Brown. A musician from an early age, he first got his exposure playing gospel music in churches in a hybrid of cultures bouncing between predominantly Latin, African American, and white congregations. He began playing professionally in 2010 in Columbia, SC and was a year later awarded solo artist of the year by the Freetimes in 2011. In the years to follow Rooks worked as a musician gigging in the Columbia area and frequently toured both regionally and nationally playing small venues and busking as a street musician, spending months at a time living in his car. From 2013-2015, he lived in Washington, DC where he worked as a gigging musician, street performer, and briefly signed to 4EverYoung Music Group. In 2016, he returned to South Carolina where he now works and performs regularly.
Jon Rooks is a performer who uses looping technology to play multiple instruments at once combining guitar, piano, harmonica, beatboxing, and vocals to emulate a full band. Being a soulful vocalist and musician, Rooks is most often compared to artists like Justin Timberlake or Ed Sheeran. Stylistically, Rooks takes elements of soul, acoustic, and modern R&B as well as world music influences to create a synthesis of sound to which he refers to as Black Eyed Soul.
